3hive's Halloween Grab Bag

I've been out trick-or-treating, searching for some musical treats for you this Halloween. I found a couple chuckle-chews from Dr. Elmo, the man responsible for "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer," some Gothic spookiness from Sizsahvirium, jazzy hauntings from Origin Of The Species, and candy coated rock 'n' roll from the Candy Snatchers and Half Japanese. There's even a bit o' Celtic sounds if you're dressing up as Tony Blair or a bar of Irish Spring. Got any of you own Halloween-ish tracks to share? Drop the links in the comments.

Dr. Elmo - Redneck Dracula
Dr. Elmo - Pointy The Pyramid Pumpkin
Sizsahvirium - le Canticle pour Halloween
The Candy Snatchers - Haunted Road
Origin of Species - Spooky
Half-Japanese - Vampire
Maggie Sansone - Samhain Set: All Hallow's Eve - The Seeker

Play It As It Lays #254

I haven't shared my playlist for a few weeks, mostly because I've been fighting off a terrorist of a cold and have missed a couple shows, and the other ones just weren't up to par. I love the new +/- and I dusted off an old Three O'Clock record that still sounds great 21 years later! Enjoy the show.

Songbird Singing in the Dead of Night...

Songbird is this really great media player that lets you browse/search/download media files from all over the web with great ease, and play them alongside those found on your hard drive. It's as if the WWW were one big library of media files...wait, that's exactly what it is. Anyway, Songbird is still in super-secret-developers-only-preview-pre-beta release but I've been playing with it for a couple hours now and it seems awfully dope. And they consider 3hive a good use case for their "Subscribe" function, which is flattering but makes me a wee bit nervous that you won't stop by and say hi anymore. (I feel like my grandmother: "Ever since email came along you don't write me like you used to." "Grammy, I write you all the time—you just don't read your email.")

Here's a fun screencast showing how it works. Thanks to JM3 for the tip.

New MP3 + Album from Dosh

The Lost Take, Dosh's third album is due out October 17th through Anticon. From the sounds of the first listen music fans are in for a treat. On "Um, Circles and Squares" Martin Dosh collaborates with Andrew Bird on violin and Mike Lewis from Fog on saxophone, cutting and looping their performances with his signature rhythm, live drums and bass-synth sequencing, underneath. The synth work reminds me of a sound four lads from Basildon, England conjured up twenty-five years ago, updated with live, organic instrumentation.
