25% Luscious

I think I'm safe to speak for everyone at 3hive when I say it's about time!! Jill Cunniff, singer & bassist of Luscious Jackson, is gonna be dropping a solo record in October. The ladies of Luscious Jackson have kept a low profile over the last several years, so it was a pleasant surprise to hear that The Militia Group announced Jill's signing and her fall debut, City Beach. The track listing along with three songs from the album are up at myspace.com/jillcunniff. The songs sound a bit slicker than LJ, but they've still got that mad flava.

Silversun Pickups New MP3 + Album

Wow. The new single from Silversun Pickups RULES. Reminds me of the first time I heard Gish. Dig the way the drum fills carry on longer than you expect between verses. Luscious. Their new album, Carnavas, was produced by Dave Cooley (J. Dilla, Rolling Blackouts). He gave them more time in the studio than they were used to—allowing them to hone in the sounds of the record to match their big live sound. Carnavas comes out next Tuesday. Reminder: Jets Overhead

Industry loud-mouth Bob Lefsetz reminded me today about Jets Overhead. I rarely agree with the guy's taste in music, but we do share an affinity for this Canadian band. And hello—they have their entire catalog available as free MP3s plus a really handy paypal link to help you share the sharing. Consider this a gentle nudge to listen to Jets Overhead again, or for the first time.

Say Hi To Your Mom Goes Goth

With Impeccable Blahs, out next Tuesday, Say Hi To Your Mom contributes to the long line of goth-rock albums like no one else can. First off, the album cover's pink. See, when Say Hi To Your Mom records an entire album about vampires don't expect thirteen dark and spooky songs with over-wrought lyrics. Brace yourself for ten more songs brimming with SHTYM's punchy bass, charming synth riffs, understated vocals, sharp drumming and cleverly poetic lyrics. Goth, but endearlingly so.

Their North American tour begins tomorrow.

Sad, But Endearingly So [MP3, 4.9MB, 160kbps]

Danger Doom Occult Hymn EP for FREE!

DJ Danger Mouse is Mr. Ubiquitous right now, and you're not going to hear complaints from over here. Some skits, a couple of remixes (including one from Madvillian co-conspirator Madlib) and some bonus trax. Get the whole thing here, or just doom it the old fashioned way one track at a time.

Skit 1 [MP3, 1.3MB, 128kbps]
El Chupa Nibre Remix [MP3, 3.9MB, 192kbps]
Perfect Hair II [MP3, 3.2MB, 192kbps]
